Nuapada: The decapitated body of a newborn baby boy was found from a farmland at Budhapara village under Palsada panchayat in Boden police limits of Nuapada district Saturday morning.
Boden police seized the body and the head that were lying separately and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to a source, some villagers first spotted the decapitated body with its severed head lying on a piece of farmland, owned by local man Narendra Behera.
The terrified villagers immediately informed Narendra and the police. Later a team of Boden police reached the spot and recovered the body parts for postmortem.
While the incident has since been a point of discussion, some related the incident to be a case of human sacrifice. Meanwhile, several others suggested it to be a case of unwanted motherhood.
The police have launched a detailed probe into the incident and are considering all possible angles. The postmortem report would help crack the case, a source in the police said.
