Bhubaneswar, Oct 30: Orissa vice-captain Govind Poddar credited Friday the team’s bowlers for their tight bowling on the rain-interrupted first day of the four-day Ranji Trophy encounter against Delhi at the KIIT Cricket Stadium here Friday. Delhi scored 99 for one in 48 overs.
“The sky was overcast and the weather was conducive for fast bowling. We would have been in a much better condition, had we been a bit lucky,” Govind stated after the match.“Still I feel that our bowlers did a decent job by maintaining a tight line and length. We may not have taken wickets, but then we have not also conceded many runs. The run rate of Delhi is just over two runs per over,” he pointed out.
Govind also praised the Delhi batters for their dogged and watchful batting. “They must be given due credit. They judged the bowling pretty well and were astute in leaving deliveries. Gautam Gambhir in particular used his vast experience to stall us,” the batting mainstay of the hosts said. “But we could have been better off had Abhilash (Mallick) and myself utilised the half chances that came our way.
“Well this is part and parcel of the game. I still feel that we did a very good job. We will look to capture couple of early wickets Saturday,” Govind added.
Talking about the pitch, Govind stated that even though it still has some life for the bowlers, the wicket will ease out with time. “So we have to utilise the early life when the match resumes,” asserted Govind.
