Malkangiri: Maoists once again made their presence felt at the Malkangiri-Chhattisgarh border. They torched six vehicles Wednesday engaged in the construction of a road at Alabada village in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. The village is adjacent to the Malkangiri border. Following the act of arson by the Maoists, police have tightened the security in Malkangiri district.
Sources said a group of 10-12 armed Maoists arrived at the camp site and threatened the workers to stop construction of the road at Alabada village. They forced the workers to leave the place and set the vehicles including a tractor and water tanker. Before leaving they left posters proclaiming that they were members of the Malkangiri-Chhattisgarh division of the banned CPI (Maoist).
On being informed, Bijapur police personnel and security forces rushed to the spot. They have launched a combing operation in the area. However, they are moving cautiously as the Maoists may have planted mines in the area.
Earlier this week, two Maoists including a woman cadre had been gunned down during an exchange of fire with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) personnel at ‘Swabhiman Anchal’ in the district. A huge cache of explosives and Maoist literature had been seized by the security personnel from the spot.
