Rourkela: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) constituted a high-level committee Thursday to probe into the toxic gas leak mishap that occurred Wednesday at the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). Four persons died after inhaling the toxic gas.

“A high level committee has been formed to inquire into the cause of incident and all emergency protocols have been immediately activated in the plant,” the steel major said in a statement in the afternoon.
SAIL authorities have termed the deaths of four contractual workers inside RSP premises as ‘unfortunate’. Six persons are still undergoing treatment after inhaling the toxic gas which leaked from the coal chemical division.
Chief executive officer of RSP Dipak Chattaraj had suspended two deputy general managers (DGMs) of the plant namely Gopabandhu Barik and Nabendu Das on charge of ‘dereliction of duty’. In a similar vein, RSP assistant manager (safety) Smruti Ranjan Sahu was also suspended Thursday morning.
