New Delhi: There seems to be no end to the spike in the number of new COVID-19 cases on a daily basis in India. Every day, the number is increasing with India registering new highs every day. Friday was no exception as the country reported 3,86,452 new COVID-19 cases in a span of 24 hours. It is the highest single-day rise so far in India. The new cases pushed the total tally of COVID-19 cases to 1,87,62,976. The active cases crossed the 31-lakh mark and currently stands at 31,70,228 according to the Union Health Ministry data updated Friday. The death toll increased to 2,08,330 with 3,498 new fatalities, another new high.
Registering a massive increase, the active cases now comprise 16.90 per cent of the total infections. The national COVID-19 recovery rate has further dropped to 81.99 per cent.
The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged went up to 1,53,84,418. The case fatality rate stands 1.11 per cent, the Health Ministry data stated.
India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark August 7 and 50- lakh mark September 16. It went past 60 lakh September 28 and surpassed the one-crore mark December 19. India crossed the grim milestone of 1.50 crore April 19.
According to the ICMR, 28,63,92,086 samples have been tested up to April 29 with 19,20,107 samples being tested Thursday.
Experts have predicted that unless the pace of the vaccination process increases, the number of daily cases may breach the five-lakh mark sometime around May 15. They have also said that India doesn’t have the necessary infrastructure to tackle such a huge nature of the pandemic.
