Bhubaneswar: Following the weather alert with Red Warning issued by India Meteorological Department (IMD), the School and Mass Education (S&ME) department announced Monday that schools in 12 Odisha districts will be closed for two days.
As a ‘Deep Depression’ has formed over the Bay of Bengal, the districts where a red warning of heavy rainfall has been issued are Angul, Bargarh, Cuttack, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Sambalpur and Subarnapur.
The schools will remain shut September 13 and 14, a circular read.
A decision was taken in this regard in a meeting between the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and Secretary of S&ME department.

Notably, the ‘Depression’ over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast intensified into a ‘Deep Depression’. Under its influence, several parts of the state including Cuttack-Bhubaneswar twin cities have been receiving heavy rainfall leading to water-logging.
Puri has received the maximum 341mm rainfall, followed by Paradip (210mm), Bhubaneswar (195mm), Gopalpur (64mm), Chandabali (46mm) and Balasore (24mm) so far, the IMD centre informed.
