Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday urged Union Minister for Power and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal to address the problems that the villages near Orissa-Chhattisgarh border would face when the proposed 1600 MW super thermal power project would come up at Lara.
In a letter to Goyal, Patnaik said 27 villages of Kandeikela, Remata, Kanaktora, Charpali, Pithinda and Badimal gram panchayats under Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district will be severely affected by the National Thermal Power Corporation’s (NTPC) proposed power project at Lara in Chhattisgarh.
The CM said there would be serious impact on the environment of the areas while livelihood and health conditions of the people would receive a severe jolt once the power plant commences its operation.
He said while the public hearing and environment impact assessment had been completed in villages of Chhattisgarh which would be affected by the project, no such thing has been done in Orissa.
Patnaik requested the Union minister to direct the NTPC officials to address the concerns of the villagers in the state to be affected by the power project.
