Odisha weather May 26: IMD issues Yellow Warning for thunderstorm, hailstorm

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar Friday issued a Yellow Warning for several districts of Odisha.

Upto 8.30 AM of May 27: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind with speeds reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapara, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Ganjam districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Boudh, Rayagada, Malkangiri and Koraput districts. Also, hailstorm is likely to occur at one or two places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and at one or two places over the rest districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of May 27 to 8.30 AM of May 28: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul and Ganjam districts. Thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Nayagarh, Gajapati, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Boudh, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Kalahandi and at one or two places over the rest districts of the state.

Temperature forecast: The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day) at many places over the districts and it is likely to be 42 degree Celsius or more at one or two places over some districts of interior Odisha such as Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Boudh, Sonepur, Jharsuguda and Bargarh over the next five days.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate Rain or thunderstorm is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 38 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 42.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Talcher while the lowest minimum temperature of 22.6 degree Celsius was recorded at Balasore, the bulletin informed.
