Balasore: A minor girl was found hanging inside hostel room of a private Plus-II Science college under Shilpanchal police limits in Odisha’s Balasore district Monday, a source said.
The source said that the 17-year-old girl was a native of Santaragadia village in Balasore district. The incident is suspected to have taken place late Sunday night, the source added.
On being informed, family members of the deceased and college authorities reached the spot.
Police suspected it to be a case of suicide. However, the exact reason behind her death is yet to be ascertained.
A case in this regard has been registered.

In another similar yet unrelated incident of student death, a PG first-year student of Maharaja Krishna Chandra Gajapati (MKCG) Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur died under mysterious circumstances in June 2023.
The deceased was identified as Subhani Patnaik, a student of the Dermatology, Venereology, Leprosy Department at MKCG medical college.
Though the exact reason behind the medico’s death was not ascertained, an overdose of migraine medicine was suspected to be the reason behind her death.
