New Delhi: The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has debarred the High-Tech Medical College, Rourkela from undertaking admissions to MBBS seats for the next two years. However, it had earlier given conditional approval for the MBBS course for 2016-17 academic session.
In a letter to the college authorities, the ministry said, “…after granting an opportunity of hearing the college we are directed to convey the decision of the Central government to debar your college for two academic years 2017-18 and 2018-19 and also to authorize Medical Council of India (MCI) to encash the bank guarantee of `2 crore.”
The ministry also said, “You are therefore directed not to admit any student in the academic years i.e. 2017-18 and 2018-19 in the MBBS course. Admissions made against the above decision of the Central government will be treated as irregular and action will be initiated under the IMC Act made there under.”
The ministry also clarified that earlier August 20, 2016 the institution was granted conditional renewal of permission for admissions to the fifth batch (100 seats) in MBBS course at Hi-tech medical College and Hospital, Rourkela for the academic year 2016-17 on the basis of approval communicated by the Supreme Court mandated Oversight Committee on MCI and after granting an opportunity of hearing to the college the final decision was taken. It also cited the recommendation of MCI as given March 23 this year.
