Ranpur: In a shocking incident, a minor college student had reportedly abducted a college student from his house while he was asleep and later scorched his skin with cigarette butts throughout the night after tying him to a cot Tuesday night over mobile theft.
The horrific incident was reported from Barpada village under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district. The matter came to light after a home guard Ramchandra Swain of the same village rescued the boy and admitted him to Ranpur Government Hospital.
The victim was identified as Chandan Prusty (16). Later, Chandan’s mother approached the local police and lodged a complaint against her nephews. Police swung into action and visited the village to launch a probe, it is learnt. However, no one has been arrested yet.
According to sources, Chandan is the only son of Trilochan Prusty with three sisters. He is a B.Sc second year student at Itamati Government College. He had been to his village over Dussehra vacation a few days back.
Meanwhile, a phone of his cousin Tapan Prusty was stolen from his house. Suspecting Chandan, Tapan and his brother Prasanna forcibly took the former to their house backyard while he was asleep Tuesday night.
They tied him to a cot and assaulted him seeking return of the phone. When they could not get anything, they beat him up and tortured him by branding him with cigarette butts.
They even threatened Chandan’s parents when they pleaded to release him Wednesday morning. They kept him tied throughout Tuesday night and Wednesday morning and went on assaulting him before he was rescued by the home guard.
Necessary action will be taken after investigation, police said. PNN
