Chhatrapur: Authorities have identified a new site for the proposed bridge over the Rushikulya river, marking progress on a long-pending infrastructure project that is expected to improve connectivity and boost development in Ganjam district.
The proposed bridge will originate at Kainchapur and connect to Badasankha under Ganjam block, providing a direct road link among Ganjam town, Kainchapur panchayat, Chhatrapur Municipality and Karapada panchayat.
Officials had earlier conducted soil testing near the existing bridge.
However, the alignment was revised after the railways proposed a new line in the area, prompting authorities to shift the bridge site to Kainchapur.
Plans also include construction of a road overbridge at Kainchapur level crossing and the addition of two new railway tracks.
Once completed, the bridge is expected to improve access to Maa Taratarini and Maa Ramachandi shrines while reducing travel time for residents, farmers, traders, students and government employees.
People who currently travel about 10 km on a detour will benefit from a shorter and more convenient route.
