Kakatpur/Astaranga: Allegations of widespread adulteration of chhena (cottage cheese) and milk in Kakatpur and Astaranga blocks of Puri district have sparked public outrage, with residents stopping a vehicle carrying suspected adulterated chhena and dumping its contents on the road in protest.
Locals alleged that adulterated dairy products were being sold openly in the two blocks, posing serious health risks to consumers.
They also accused the Food Safety department of failing to conduct inspections and raids despite repeated concerns.
The incident occurred Friday evening when a vehicle trans porting chhena from Shadan sha village under Kakatpur block to Kakatpur market was intercepted by the locals who suspected the product was adulterated.
Upon examining the chhena, residents claimed to have found large quantities of flour and powdered substances mixed with it.
Enraged by the alleged adulteration, they emptied the chhena onto the road, triggering tension in the area.
