Nayagada: The decomposed body of a man who had been missing for three days was recovered from a buried site near Dabakhola stream, close to Kutibari village under Tumandi panchayat in Nayagada district, Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Biranchi Naik, belonged to Asanibere na village under Takara panchayat in Dashapalla block. His family has alleged that he was murdered and his body buried to destroy evidence.
According to reports, Naik went to meet Ran jan Behera, a resident of the Dabakhola area, October 29 to collect the outstanding payment for a bull he had sold to him. However, he never returned home. His family members searched for him in several places but were unable to trace him.
Later, villagers and family members searched the forest area near Kutibari after receiving information that his body might have been buried near Dabakhola stream. During the search, they first spotted a pair of slippers.
A foul smell emanating from the area subsequently led them to the spot where Naik’s decomposed body was found buried beneath the soil. Police from Dashapalla police station, accompanied by a scientific investigation team, reached the spot and initiated an investigation.
According to Dashapalla police station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Binay Ranjan Parida, a case (316/26) has been registered at the police station. Further investigation is under way.
