Agra: A medical officer has been arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district. The medical officer has allegedly killing a 26-year-old woman doctor. The woman doctor was working at the SN Medical College here. This information was given by police officials Thursday. The woman doctor has been identified as Yogita Gautam. Her body was found with multiple injury marks along an isolated road stretch here Wednesday morning. It took police a while to ascertain her identity as her belongings were missing. Police only got to know about the doctor’s identity Wednesday evening.

The accused has been identified as Vivek Tiwari. He was a senior of Gautam at their medical school in Moradabad. Sources said he had been harassing Gautam for some time now. He was allegedly putting pressure on her to marry him, officials informed.

Tiwari, aged around 30, has also confessed to killing the doctor. He claimed that he was in a relationship with Gautam for more than seven years. He said the two had a heated argument Tuesday and in course of that he killed her.

“Dr Yogita Gautam, pursuing MD at the SN Medical College here, went missing Tuesday. Her mobile phone was not reachable for lengthy period. Her family then approached the local police station and an FIR was lodged,” Senior Superintendent of Police, Agra, Babloo Kumar said.

“The family alleged in the complaint that Dr Vivek Tiwari, currently medical officer at Jalaun Medical College, would often call her. Then he would harass and threaten her,” Kumar said. He informed that Agra police in association with their counterparts in Jalaun district arrested the doctor.

Kumar said there were visible injury marks on Gautam’s head and neck. There were ‘struggle marks’ which have been recorded. The body has been sent for post-mortem, Kumar informed. He added that the accused was being interrogated and all facts of the case would be unveiled soon.

Meanwhile a video clip of Tiwari has gone viral. In it he purportedly stated he had come Tuesday to meet Gautam from Jalaun. Both were sitting inside his car around 6.30pm when a heated argument ensued between them.

“I strangled her but when I realised she has not died, I used a knife. I usually keep the knife in my car. I used it to attack her on the head,” Tiwari is seen stating. He said he later dumped the body in an isolated area and covered it up with woods before leaving the spot.

However, people in the know of things at the Moradabad medical school said they were stunned at the turn of events. Both said, Tiwari in the recent past had been restless because Gautam was avoiding him. They said that Gautam was putting off marriage at one pretext or the other.

Others said that Tiwari had become violent in the recent past only. Prior to that, he was a sensitive and soft man who always was ready to help others. They opined that Gautam must have done something which prompted Tiwary to indulge in physical violence.

As they say, this love story will not have a happy ending. Tiwari is scheduled for a long haul behind the bars. As far as Gautam is concerned only her pictures and memories will remain.
