Bhubaneswar: In view of gradual deterioration of air quality in six cities and towns in the state, the Orissa State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) is now working towards formulation of an action plan to curb the menace.
According to OSPCB officials, the particulate matter (PM10) has emerged as the major air pollutant in most of the towns of the country raising serious concern.
According to sources, based on the air quality data between 2011 and 2015, 94 towns in the country have been identified by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) as non-attainment towns in terms of particulate matter.
OSPCB officials said Angul, Talcher, Rourkela, Cuttack, Balasore and Bhubaneswar have been identified as non-attainment towns with respect to PM10 in the ambience.
Accordingly the board will hold a workshop of various stakeholders including officials of CPCB, Jharkhand and West Bengal, August 9 here.
The workshop will discuss the action plan to tackle the air pollution menace caused due to PM10.
