Ambulance service missing, tribal woman delivers on roadside

Rayagada: Failing to get an ambulance to reach hospital on time, a tribal woman had her delivery on the roadside at Nuasahi in Kalyansinghpur block of this district Thursday. The woman was Nilai Kadraka of Tamakasila village under Kalyansinghpur block.

Nilai started having labour pain early Thursday morning. Family members called up 102 and 108 ambulance services to take her to the Kalyansinghpur community health centre (CHC), but got no response. In a hurry, the woman’s family members prepared a sling and carried her for about 10km. Her labour pain increased and she delivered a baby girl on the roadside.

Some tribal women were accompanying Nilai to the hospital. They helped her deliver the baby safely. Later, they resumed their journey to the hospital. The condition of the baby and the mother was normal, the medical staff has certified.
