Bhubaneswar, April 3: The mercury marked a steep rise in the state Friday with Angul recording the highest temperature in the state with 42.6?C. The capital city recorded a maximum of 39.8?C.
The Met centre has also predicted thunder squalls accompanied with hail and gusty surface winds reaching speeds up to 70 kmph at a few places over the coastal pockets of the state in the next 48 hours.
Talcher recorded a maximum temperature of 42?C while Titilagarh and Jharsugurda trailed at 41?C. Other places that recorded temperatures above 40?C were Baripada, Hirakud, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Chandbali, Sambalpur and Malkangiri.
“The rise in mercury level will continue in the state while people of coastal parts may witness squally weather during the afternoons in the next 48 hours. People need to be careful both of heat wave and untimely lightning,” said Met director Sarat Sahu.
The weatherman has also predicted cloudy skies for the capital city and adjoining areas with chances of rain and thundershower Saturday afternoon. The maximum temperature may touch 39?C in the city Saturday.
