Bhubaneswar: On the pious occasion of Ganesh Puja, Dhauli College of Art And Crafts celebrated the Guru–sisya parampara by organising an 
titled Ankan on its premises here Thursday.
Notably, Guru- sisya parampara is a tradition of spiritual relationship and mentoring where teachings are transmitted from a teacher to disciple. The knowledge is imparted through the developing relationship between the teacher and disciple.
Around 35 students showcased their paintings, each a specimen of intricate craftsmanship.
Manas Ranjan Maharathi, a student of the college, with his acrylic brush strokes, drew a horse speeding on the background image of Lord Buddha, implying that the stallion is his (Buddha’s) disciple.
Another student of the college Jayant Khan celebrated the works of the late Salvador Dali, a Spanish surrealist painter whose highly unusual paintings, sculptures and visionary explorations ushered in a new generation of imaginative expression.
Another painting where two students are seen walking towards Buddha, by Jyoti Ranjan Sahoo, drew huge applause. Interacting with Orissa POST, Sahoo said, “Buddha is the greatest teacher of patience and sacrifice. That’s why I tried my hands at it.”
While Manisha Maharana showcased how one can attain Nirvana through meditation, Sanjukta Rani Das painted a devotee meditating before a Shiva linga to attain Shiksha or knowledge.
Out of the 35 paintings, Guest of Honour Ajay Kumar Rout, Secretary Dhauli Development Society and art critic Mihirkant Praharaj adjudged the aforementioned five paintings as the best ones.
Speaking on the occasion, Rout said, “Art plays an important role in attracting tourists. I am hopeful that in the upcoming days these amazing pieces of art will witness heavy footfall at the scenic Dhauli College of Art And Crafts.”
Praharaj said learning is a never ending process and this is the only way through which the artists can improvise and their works can one day be considered timeless.
Dean of the college Panchanan Samal said, “Dhauli College of Art And Crafts has always celebrated the Guru- sisya parampara and on this auspicious occasion of Ganesh Puja, all the students have left no stone unturned to showcase their artistic prowess on the canvas.”
However, it was the seven feet Ganesh idol which was a sight for sore eyes. The idol was seen showing his restraint over his fingers and teaching painting to the disciples.
