Cuttack, Oct 15: The Crime Branch Wednesday arrested another accused in connection with murder of four members of a family at Dinadia in Astarang police limits on charges of plotting the crime.
Accused Fakir Mallick was produced in the court of Nimapara judicial magistrate (first class) which remanded the accused in judicial custody after the court rejected his bail petition.
The crime Branch, on the other hand, took the couple – Himadri Sekhar Das alias Rahim Khan and his wife Ayesha Begum – earlier arrested in connection with the murders, on a six-day remand.
“Although we have sought nine days’ remand of the accused couple for further interrogation, the JMFC court has granted six days,” ADG (crime branch) Bijay Kumar Sharma said.
Earlier, the CB had taken the couple on a four-day remand. After the earlier remand period came to an end, the CB had again appealed for a fresh remand of the accused couple, Sharma said.
According to the CB sources, accused Fakir Mallick is the brother-in-law of Dinabandhu Mallick and Rahim is his godson. Rahim came in contact with the Mallick family with the help of Fakir. Rahim and his wife Ayesha used to visit Dinabandhu frequently and plotted to rob their money and ornaments.
During investigation, the CB learnt that Fakir, who worked as a gram rakhi (village guard), had hatched the plan to eliminate Dinabandhu and his wife and two children. The accused also helped Rahim to run ganja business in Astarang and Puri areas, Sharma said.
A CB team is investigating into the antecedents of the accused couple outside the state, Sharma added.
