New Delhi: A four-day painting exhibition ‘Voyage’ was inaugurated by eminent artist Roop Chand at the AIFACS Gallery in New Delhi Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion Roop Chand said, “Art personifies creativity and love, and that is what these five artistes have displayed in this gallery.”
Artists Ashok Mahakur, Hrudayananda Pattanaik, Jayashree Jena, Rajanikanta Sahu and Rashmi Ranjan Rout displayed their works at the event.
One of Mahakur’s paintings depicts an angelic form in a utopian world spreading positive energy everywhere. Most of his works are experimental in order to break free of the convention.
Pattanaik focuses on building blocks of human life as if the construction of life is being depicted through his works. He believes life is like a colourful brick with different layers.
Jena engages with the current state of violence in society, and it is reflected through her vision. There is a depiction of violence and innocence, coexisting at the same place in her canvases.
Sahu is a visual artist. He said that his prime focus is natural panorama, and he aims to unravel the forms and rhythmic movements of nature. Most of his works are filled with swirling brushwork and poetic colours.
He is in constant search for colours in his pallet. One of his self-portrayed works depicts the human nature of finding himself amid natural beauty to celebrate the phenomenon of nature.
Rout plays with forms and colours in his abstract works. He has a vision where art is a continuum of discovery. He puts a layer of colour and runs it off taking care that it may not disappear altogether. Layer after layer of colour, eventually arrives at an unidentifiable and usual texture of colours, indefinable by any conventional name.
The aesthetics of the work is integrated through layers revealing the covered layer, and thus creating unidentifiable forms.
