Bhubaneswar, April 6: Sparkles, an annual day celebration organised by the cultural club of Utkal University, enthralled students and guests with splendid performances by students at the MKCG Auditorium on the varsity campus here Monday.
Attending the programme as chief guest, Padma Shri recipient and music maestro Prafulla Kar recalled his long association with the varsity. “The university played an important role in the development of my singing career. When I was a student here, I used to regularly participate in all cultural events conducted at the university. The stage here is very special to me as my initial days of singing started here and some of my songs which went on to become hits were all written and performed here. I later modified and used them in films,” the legendary composer-cum-singer reminisced.
The maestro also had a word of advice for the boisterous assembly of students. “This time is the most important phase of your lives. Your future depends entirely on what path you choose now as a student. You have to be very careful with the choices you make,” Kar said.
Actor and anchor Kuna Tripathy, who was also present at the event, exhorted students to mould themselves as future stakeholders in the development of the state. “It all depends upon the attitude and mindset of the young generation. Without their active involvement, it is hard for our country to achieve development,” Tripathy said.
MLA Priyadarshi Mishra, who was among the guests, exhorted students to respect time. “Give importance to time and do the right thing at the right time. Time is crucial and you have to invest it properly on a career which you have your heart in,” Mishra said, to applause from students. The MLA later announced that the MKCG auditorium would be equipped with air-conditioners.
