Bhandaripokhari: Dr Niranjan Ojha is an Ayurvedic doctor by profession, but literature and culture are his passions. Despite his busy schedule as a government Ayurvedic doctor, he has been associated with a number of literary and cultural institutions in Bhandaripokhari area of Bhadrak district.
Born to Ananta and Kumudini Ojha at Karanja in 1963, Ojha studied HSC at Barikpur High School and PG in Ayurveda at Puri-based Gopabandhu Ayruvedic Medical College. He joined the government service in 1988.
Recalling the days of hardship, he said, “Then family’s economic condition was not so good. My father was a carpenter. It was too difficult for my father to educate five sons with meagre earning from carpentry.” However, despite difficulties, he studied Intermediate in Bhadrak College. To manage his expenses, he used to give tuitions to students.
As Ayurvedic doctors he has worked at different government hospitals in the state – in Keonjhar and Bhadrak.
Ojha has earned a name for himself by successfully treating some cases of arthritis, epilepsy and paralysis. “If you have dedication in your work to serve people, you will be successful,” he observed.
He narrated a case of paralysis while working at Kenduapada in 1988. Chhabirani Khatua (35) of Dando village was cured of paralysis with his treatment, Ojha said.
Whenever he finds time after his official job, he engages himself in various activities like literary writing, organising religious and cultural programmes and health camps.
He is also known as a good writer. His articles have appeared in various magazines and newspapers. His family comprises his wife Diptimayee, a son and a daughter. His son has done B Tech.
