Boinda: A one-and-a-half years old girl escaped death by the skin of her teeth when she was rescued from under a moving train due to the alertness of the train driver at Kadalimunda near Boinda station in Angul district. The girl was identified as Prachi Pradhan, daughter of Rinku Pradhan living near railway tracks in Kadalimunda village.
Sources said the Sambalpuri-Puri passenger train left Boinda station at 3.30 pm and was approaching Kadalimunda when Prachi ran out of her house and came on the rail tracks. The driver blew horn after seeing the toddler on tracks and was about to apply the brake when the train engine crossed over the little girl.
The driver immediately stopped the train by applying brakes and got down to find Prachi stuck between the train engine and the first bogie. He rescued the girl and handed her over to her family members.
The toddler is reported to have sustained minor injuries on her head and was admitted to Boinda health centre for treatment.
The villagers have thanked the alert train driver for saving the life of the little girl.
