Balasore, April 27: Members of Sanskruti Surakhya Manch (SSM), an outfit fighting for the protection of culture of Jaleswar in this district, Monday met the collector and demanded ban on a novel based on seventeenth century Oriya poet Bhaktakabi Dinakrushna Das.
‘Tumaku Mora Nahin Dara’ a novel written by Kartikeswar Patra has not only damaged the reputation of the great poet but also hurt the Oriya pride, SSM said. While the birth place of the poet in this district is regarded as a holy destination with several research scholars and analysts producing countless theses recognizing his works, Patra has crossed the limits with the figment of his imaginations, it alleged.
The writer, despite being the president of Dinakrushna Smruti Parishad, has made some derogatory remarks on the great poet’s character which would show the Oriya literature and culture in poor light. Hence, the novel should be prohibited, the members of SSM further argued. Indumadhab Mohanty, Dilip Kumar Giri, Sitanshu Senapati and several other members of the Manch
submitted a memorandum to the collector.
