Korukonda: The efforts of Korukonda block development officer (BDO) CP Seepak Kumar Patra and a junior engineer saved the lives of two youths.
Sama Khara of Durumaguda village in Chimitipalli panchayat under this block in Malkangiri district and his friend met with an accident at MV-38 Square while going to Malkangiri on a bike Sunday.
Sama, who was the pillion rider, suffered serious injuries. At that time, JE Jagannath Behera was passing by. Seeing the two youths lying in a pool of blood, he immediately contacted the 108-ambulance service but the vehicle could not arrive as it was in a garage.
Meanwhile, BDO Patra called the JE for some official work on his mobile phone and the former came to know about the accident. Patra reached the spot soon and took the youths to Balimela government hospital in his vehicle.
The BDO stayed at the hospital to know the whereabouts of the injured duo. After sometime, the doctors referred Sama to the district headquarters hospital as his condition deteriorated.
Patra immediately took Sama to Malkangiri DHH in his vehicle. He also instructed the Chimitapali panchayat executive officer to inform the family members of Sama about the accident. Patra was with Sama till the arrival of the latter’s family members at 9.30 pm.
Sama’s family thanked Patra for his humanitarian gesture, while the villagers expressed their gratitude to the BDO.
