Bhubaneswar:A bike rally to Kandhamal, christened Peace and Harmony was launched at Gandhi Park here Tuesday by the National Youth project to mark the Saheed Diwas. The bike rally was organised to spread awareness to free India of liquor, violence and unemployment.
The bike rally will reach all blocks of Kandhamal area and
reach Bhubaneswar February 2, said Shree Som, the coordinator of the peace
and harmony bike rally. “As Kandhamal had experienced communal violence we had decided to launch the rally from Kandhamal. More such rallies will be organised to other districts,” Som added. In the bike rally, 10 motorcyclists including three girls are participating.
The bikers will hold sessions in the schools and colleges along their way and will motivate the youths to join the right path and not dependent on intoxicants or drugs.
National Youth Project convener Madhusudhan Das said we pay homage to all those who sacrificed their lives to make India independent on the Saheed Diwas (Martyrs’ Day). They sacrificed their life for the country and on this occasion the youth must understand their power and energy must be utilised in the proper way to pay respects to the martyrs. But the youths have been used for anti-social activities by a few miscreants. Lack of em
ployability sometimes is stated to be the biggest cause which drives young people to take recourse to violence. Madhushmita, a lady biker on the rally, said the youth must focus on working hard and improve their skills rather than thinking of getting easy money. The rally was flagged off by Bhabani Charan Patnaik, Orissa Khadi Board chairman Tejeswar Parida and NYP president Surya Rath were present among others.
