Bhadrak: In a bizarre incident which bordered negligence, a ‘live’ patient was declared ‘dead’ by a doctor who was in sleep. The shocking episode took place at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in the wee hours of Sunday.
The patient’s family members created a ruckus at the hospital, demanding action against the errant doctor.
According to reports, Sujit Khatua of Khatuatana near Aaradi in Bhadrak had been unwell for some time now. His family members took him to DHH after his condition deteriorated Sunday morning.
When the family members reached the hospital with the patient, they found the doctor fast asleep. They woke him up to examine Sujit.
Disturbed the doctor after getting up took a prescription slip and declared the patient dead. This irked the family members who raised a hue and cry.
However, after realising his mistake, the doctor snatched the slip away from the family members.
Later some local residents joined Sujit’s family members, demanding action against the doctor. Tension was prevailing at the hospital till the filing of this report.
Sujit however, has been admitted and is currently undergoing treatment.
