Bhubaneswar, Sept 20: With the second phase of monsoon session commencing Wednesday, the ruling Biju Janata Dal and Congress fine-tuned their respective House strategies.
Both the parties have decided to prioritise issues in their respective Legislature Party meetings on the Assembly precincts Tuesday evening.
BJD supremo and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik who chaired the BJD LP meeting said issues such as Mahanadi dispute, Polavaram row and Central neglect would be raised by the ruling party.
The ongoing projects taken up by Chhattisgarh government in the Mahanadi upstream unilaterally will also be opposed. The recent move of the Centre to grant full aid to the controversial Polavaram project, and curtailment of funds in centrally sponsored schemes will be raised by the party.
BJD leader and parliamentary affairs minister Bikram Keshari Arukh said the ruling party is prepared to confront the Opposition. Sources said the BJD which has a strength of 117 in the House is likely to bring a censure motion on Mahanadi water issue condemning Chhattisgarh government’s stance. Likewise, it many also move a motion or bring in a resolution on Mahanadi, Polavaram and issues of Central neglect.
On the contrary, leader of Opposition (LoP) Narasingha Mishra chaired the Congress LP meeting, attended by party MLAs and OPCC chief Prasad Harichandan.
He said the Dana Majhi episode, Malnutrition deaths of Nagada, shortage of doctors, killing of innocent civilians as suspected Maoists in Kandhamal, mango kernel deaths in Rayagada, dearth of teachers and farmers’ plight among others will be raised during the discussions to expose the state government.
Meanwhile, the BJP which had previously convened its LP meeting also said it is ready with strategies to edge out the ruling BJD during the session.
