Bhubaneswar, Jan 11: The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Sunday decided to induct 40 lakh members into the party by the end of March 2015, following the advice of the party national president Amit Shah on strengthening the BJP’s base in Orissa.
The party has decided to launch a three-day membership campaign from January 23, the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, according to BJP state vice-president Pratap Sarangi. The campaign will continue till January 25, Sarangi said.
“We have set a target of enrolling 40 lakh members by March 2015. So far, more than 7 lakh persons have been enrolled in the membership drive in the state,” he said.
All leaders, from the state president to other office bearers and party workers, will reach out at the grassroot level and encourage people and youth to join the party.
“BJP national president Amit Shah has already shown the way by admitting 108 persons into the party at Dhauli during his recent visit. There are around 40,000 active members in the state. Each party representative has been given the task of inducting 100 persons to the party during the drive,” Sarangi said.
The BJP will also organise training camps for party members in the state January 20. The drive is part of a programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
