Baripada: Block Chairperson of Baripada Sadar, Parbati Hembram was allegedly thrashed and garlanded with shoes by some villagers of Nuadihi in Mayurbhanj district.
The incident was recorded by a mobile phone and the video went viral on social media after being posted.
According to reports, Parbati was supporting a youth of Ranibhola village who had in March kidnapped a minor girl of Nuadihi. The mother of the abducted girl had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Sadar police alleging that Parbati was pressurising her to get her daughter married to the kidnapper youth.
When Parbati July 26 came to Nuadihi to discuss the matter, the victim girl’s mother and some villagers allegedly assaulted her and forced her to wear a garland of shoes.
The Block Chairperson has filed a police complaint over the attack on her. Police have started investigation into the incident.
