Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Wednesday presented a Rs 1,050 crore Budget for the 2026–27 financial year, focusing on infrastructure development, sanitation and revenue augmentation.

The Budget was tabled by BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana in the presence of Deputy Mayor Manjulata Kanhar and other senior officials at a special session held at Ekamra Hall, chaired by Mayor Sulochana Das. Councillors, officials and representatives of MPs and MLAs also attended the session.

Out of the total outlay, the civic body has projected Rs 300 crore as its own revenue and estimated Rs 750 crore from grants to be received from the Centre and the Odisha government.

Presenting the Budget, Finance Standing Committee chairman Rajkishor Das said the corporation largely depends on government grants, but a condition has now been imposed to ensure 12.65 per cent annual growth in revenue to avail such funds.

He added that the civic body will have to strengthen its internal revenue collection to meet the target.

The Budget earmarks Rs 639.41 crore towards miscellaneous and administrative expenditure, including Rs 132.19 crore for salaries and pensions and Rs 182 crore for sanitation and cleaning services.

An amount of Rs 24.61 crore has been allocated for bio-mining activities.

In the infrastructure sector, Rs 90 crore has been proposed for the construction of new roads and Rs 75 crore for drainage and sewerage systems.

The civic body has also allocated Rs 10.28 crore for waste management centres and Rs 15.75 crore for crematorium development.
