Bhubaneswar: With the beginning of the winter season in the state, the health officials are worried about the spread of diseases, and the civic body has decided to take immediate precautions to prevent spread of vector borne diseases in the capital.
Top officials of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently held a meeting with the health officials, doctors and ASHA workers to discuss the measures to be taken for preventing the spread of diseases like dengue in the city. In fact, the state recently reported many swine flu and dengue cases and the approach of winter raised concern about their outbreak.
Meanwhile, the officials have confirmed that the city is currently safe and all the necessary measures have been taken by the civic body to make the city free from vector borne diseases. However, officials feel public cooperation is also needed to make the city completely safe from vector borne diseases.
“The Aedes mosquito, responsible for dengue, never uses polluted water to lay eggs. Thus, the thrown out plastic containers, cups, coconut shells, used tyres, air coolers, flower pots often help in holding stagnant and clear water. Therefore, apart from intensifying the sanitation activities, we also need public cooperation,” said a health official of BMC.
Therefore, officials in the coming days are also going to organise several awareness campaigns and public interaction programmes on dengue. According to sources, the civic body has also decided to have regular community level interaction programmes to increase the public awareness. Top officials have also given the necessary direction to health officials and ASHA workers to conduct the awareness programmes. The officials have already visited Salia Sahi slum and some other locations in the city to assess the hygienic standards and give necessary direction to sanitation workers. Civic body workers have also done the fogging in many areas to kill the mosquitoes.
