Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to hire medical officers, nurses, pharmacists and other health professionals on a temporary basis to manage the worsening Covid-19 situation.
The additional district urban & public health officer (ADUPHO) invited applications from eligible Ayush Medical Officers (AMOs), unemployed and registered auxiliary nurse and midwives (ANMs), staff nurses and pharmacists to be engaged on a daily wage basis for Covid management.
“We are taking steps to increase our manpower to efficiently manage the pandemic in the coming days. At present, we have about 70 staff-members under each category. We are looking for additional 20-30 AMOs, about 50 ANMs and 100 nurses. The additional force will be engaged in administering vaccines, management of Covid care centres, distribution of Covid kits and other activities,” said a BMC official.
The official also mentioned that the new recruits would work on a temporary basis for a period of three months. The merit list will be prepared based on marks obtained in their professional or degree courses.
Mentioning the remunerations for different categories and eligibility, the notification issued by the ADUPHO stated that only those AMOs who are permanent residents of the state and below 50 years can apply. The candidates thus selected will be provided with a daily wage of `2,200.
“The unemployed, trained and registered ANMs will be provided with `850 per day of remunerations if engaged in Covid Care Facilities /RRTs or other works. However, they will be given a stipend of `500 per day if engaged in works related to Covid-19 vaccination. Similarly, unemployed trained and registered staff nurses and pharmacists will be given `1,000 per day for their duties. In case of non-availability of ANMs, the ADUPHO may engage alternatively the staff nurses and pharmacists and be paid accordingly,” the application read.
Meanwhile, sources at the BMC said that hiring and engagement of additional health workers will be done within this week. While the initial period for their work is stated to be three months, it could be extended after observing the condition of the pandemic in the city.
