Bonded labour returns home with dengue

Papadahandi:  A migrant labour, Ranu Majhi, who had gone to Mumbai to earn his livelihood, returned home after being affected by dengue disease.

Ranu, son of Laxan Majhi, is a resident of Kantamal village under Papadahandi block in Nabarangpur district. Due to poor financial condition of his family, Ranu went to Mumbai September 20 where he was working a labour at building construction sites.

Ranu was rushed to a local hospital as he was affected by fever and was found dengue positive after he underwent a blood test for the vector-borne disease, following which he returned to his home as he had no more money to bear the hospital fees there.

Similarly, he could not go to the hospital at Papadahandi for treatment due to his poor financial condition.

However, medical-in-charge Sushreeta Sethy and the local sarpanch admitted him at Papadahandi community health centre (CHC) and later shifted to Nabarangpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) and then admitted at Koraput medical as his condition didn’t improve at the CHC and Nabarangpur DHH.
