BOSE instructor held, gets bail

Cuttack, April 6: An instructor of Bhubanananda Orissa School of Engineering (BOSE) was arrested by Commissionerate Police here Monday morning and released on bail in the
afternoon.
Durga Kumar Sinha has been accused of molesting a girl student during a practical class and was evading arrest for the last six days.
According to Cuttack DCP Sanjeev Arora, the accused instructor was arrested here and was produced in the court. The school was reopened Monday after students went on a stir for three days on the campus demanding the arrest of the instructor and transfer of the principal for his failure to take action. The victim was allegedly molested by accused Sinha March 30 during a practical class.
Soon after the incident, the girl lodged a complaint with the principal of the college before lodging a formal complaint with Mangalabag police station.
Alleging inaction by the school authorities, the diploma engineering students of the government-run school had gone berserk and vandalised the classrooms and other properties inside the campus Wednesday.
The protests continued for the second day Thursday. Later in the day, the victim, a first year student of Diploma in Mechanical Engineering had deposed before the sexual harassment cell of the school and recorded her statement.
Following the unruly situation in the school, the students forced the authorities to suspend the classes till Monday. With the arrest of the accused, normalcy is expected to return to the campus.
Meanwhile, sub-divisional judicial magistrate granted bail to Sinha against a bail bond of Rs 15,000.
