Soro: Acting on a tip-off, excise officials Monday arrested a man and seized 30 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 3 lakh from his possession in Ambakuduchi village under Basta block in this district.
The arrested accused has been identified as Rabindra Ray.
According to sources, a 12-member team of excise department’s mobile squad and officials from Soro conducted the raid and seized the contraband from Ray’s possession.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Ray had illegally imported the powder from West Bengal and was selling it in Balasore.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway, the officials said.
