Bhubaneswar: There is no let-up in housebreaking incidents in the Capital City as some unidentified miscreants raided a house at Bhotapada under Mancheswar police limits Tuesday night and decamped with gold ornaments worth Rs 4 lakh and Rs 10,000 in cash, raising the total number of such cases under this police station to two within a week. The burglars looted 14 gold rings and three sets of anklets from the wardrobe locker of Purnananda Bhoi, an employee of Indian Railways, a senior police official at Mancheswar police station said. Bhoi, along with his family members, had gone to one of his relatives’ house and stayed there Tuesday night, said the cop, adding that Wednesday morning he received a call from one of his neighbours who said that his gate lock and door were broken. Bhoi then rushed to his residence and discovered articles in rummaged condition. Bhoi came down heavily on night security in the City and alleged that lack of police patrolling had given a free hand to criminals to commit such acts. “Had there been proper police patrolling during night, such an incident would not have happened,” he said. Notably, last week unidentified men swept gold ornaments and other valuables estimated to around Rs 25 lakh from two homes in Satyabadi apartment under Mancheswar police limits.
