Keonjhar: Police Tuesday arrested a bus conductor of a Keonjhar-bound private bus on the charge of allegedly misbehaving with a woman passenger at Baramunda bus stand in Bhubaneswar Monday.
Based on the complaint of the woman, Keonjhar town police registered a case and arrested the man while a probe was launched.
According to the complaint, the woman boarded the bus named ‘Alvina’ at Baramunda bus stand Monday 3 pm. At that time there was no other passengers inside the bus and taking advantage of the situation, the conductor molested the woman and reportedly attempted to rape her.
When the woman objected to his advances and cried out for help, the conductor threatened her to return the ticket and get down from the bus. In a fit of rage, he hurled filthy words at her, returned the money for ticket and asked her to get off the bus.
But when some other passengers boarded the bus, the conductor was not able to do anything. But when the bus reached Naranpur at 8pm, he forced her to get down there half-way as half of the passengers had alighted from the bus.
Upon reaching home, she narrated the entire incident to her family members. Later, the family members lodged a complaint with the town police.
“When I boarded the bus at Baramunda, there were no passengers so the conductor tried to rape me. When I objected and raised an alarm, he returned the ticket and asked me to get down the bus. He also threatened to me if I utter a word about the incident. However, soon after a few passengers boarded, the conductor could not do anything. Later, he asked me to get down midway,” said the rape survivor, recalling the incident.
