Bhubaneswar, Jan 9: After completing her masters, Debdutta Mohanty, a city-based professional, was all excited about her wedding, fascinated by the film-style royal weddings often shown in reel lives. Debdutta wanted her special moments to be captured in the best possible way.
One year after the grand event, the tech-friendly Debdutta, who had turned to candid photography and wedding movies, is pleased with the way the special moments were captured.
Like Debdutta, many youngsters are shying away from the practice of taking still photographs that focus solely on the ceremonies and of the videos that capture images of everything instead of just the moments that matter. Young people these days demand high-quality images of some candid moments of the girl and boy from even before the wedding day. The youngsters also opt for wedding movies that capture the entertaining and funny moments of the wedding rather than the videos that cover all the events.
This has led to a change in the way photographers are approaching weddings.
City-based photographer Manas Das, who has for the last five years been running a website that offers wedding photography options, recently added candid photography and wedding movie options to cash in on the changing demands of youngsters.
“We have witnessed a surge in demand for candid photography and wedding movies. Many people do not hesitate spending more for capturing their special moments. This cuts across all classes. How the wedding is captured naturally depends on how the clients want to remember their special day,” said Das.
The demand for such photographs and wedding movies has increased the scope for a new generation of shutterbugs who want to make a career out of photography and video production.
“Candid photography is a highly-skilled profession. However, when skill and passion are combined it gives wonderful results. There are many youngsters like me who are now coming into this profession to make it a full-time career. Candid photographs capture the best emotions because they are often taken in appropriate background and in less crowded spots,” said Robin Saini, who travels to different parts of the country for such assignments.
