Digapahandi: Acting on a tip-off, police and election officials seized cash worth lakhs from a car of the district in-charge of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at Punjikanya Square here in Ganjam district, Wednesday.
The revelation came after Digapahandi block election officer-cum-magistrate Adawit Kumar Swain accompanied by police and election officials intercepted a car carrying the Gajapati district BJP in-charge Pabitra Mohan Das, BJP’s Ganjam district office bearer Kunja Bihari Panigrahi and Biswmohan Das of Jajpur and searched the vehicle. During the search, cash worth lakhs were seized from two airbags in the car.
Police detained all the three BJP men and questioned them in this connection. When contacted, the block election officer (BEO) said that the car was on its way to Mohana in Gajapati district from Berhampur. Assistant block agriculture officer(ABAO) Padarbinda Sahu, Dakshya Prasad Acharya, revenue inspector Ratnakar Swain and police officials participated in the raid.
