Bhubaneswar, Feb 12: The CBI special investigation team (SIT) submitted a preliminary charge sheet against Micro Finance Limited (MFL) at the CBI special court here in connection with the multi-thousand crore chit-fund scam in state Wednesday. This is the third charge sheet filed in the ponzi cases so far.
Five people including the MFL’s former chairman-cum-managing director (CMD) Durga Prasad Mishra, his brother Upendra Mishra, son Kaliprasad Mishra, and directors Ashok Patnaik and Baikunthanath Patnaik have been named in the 100-page charge sheet. CBI has so far arrested three men from MFL — Durga, Ashok and Baikunthanath — while two others of the company, Kaliprasad and Upendra, are absconding.
Included in the charge sheet are witness depositions and concerned documents. The accused have been slapped charges under IPC sections 120(B), 406, 409, 420, 471 and sections 4, 5, 6 of the Prize Chit and Money Circulation (Banning) Act, 1978.
The charge sheet states that the chit fund company has duped investors of at least `400crore by floating six companies including Micro Leasing and Funding (MLF), Micro Media, Micro Hotels, Micro Hospitals and Micro Constructions in the state.
It mentions Upendra Mishra and Kaliprasad as the managing directors of MLF.
Filing a preliminary charge sheet within 120 days of the start of the probe is a statutory requirement. CBI sources said a supplementary charge sheet would follow. This is the third charge sheet filed by CBI.
