Bhubaneswar, Sept 28: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday carried out raids at the offices and residences of officials of Green Ray International (GRIL) , a chit fund company which has swindled several crores from around 1.5 lakh investors in the state.
CBI sources said at least 15 official and residential premises of persons associated with GRIL were raided Monday morning.
CBI officials raided buildings in Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Balasore, Bhadrak and many other districts in the state.
“The CBI officials raided the residences of the company’s managing directors Mir Sahiruddin, Mir Tahiruddin, Khalik Shah, and Ayub Shah,” sources said.
The national probe agency also seized documents related to the chit-fund scam and schemes floated by the company which have foreign connections and alleged links with anti-national forces.
Green Ray is one of 44 chit fund companies in Orissa which are now under the CBI scanner following a Supreme Court directive in this regard. The company is accused of mobilising more than `500 crore from the state alone.
GRIL has 41 branches in Orissa and 67 in 13 other states besides its international branch in Bar Dubai.
As many as 13 cases were registered by the state crime branch against the company under various sections of IPC and Prize Chits and Money Circulation Schemes (Banning) Act 1978 in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Ganjam, Sonepur and Khurda districts. And five cases in this connection were also registered by Chhattisgarh police.
Chhattisgarh police October 13 last year had arrested Shah from Ajmer. He was caught while trying to flee to Nigeria via Bangladesh. The additional district judge-cum-designated court under Orissa Protection of Interest of Depositors (in financial establishment) Act 2011 had issued notices to managing directors, directors and general manager of the group to appear before it which they avoided.
