Berhampur, April 15: The Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) prepared by the Town and Country Planning Organisation (TCPO) of the Central Government has finally been approved by the Berhampur Development Authority (BDA) at its 32nd meeting here Wednesday. A total of Rs 1.08 crore was spent for preparation of the CDP and it took seven years to complete it.
The CDP for the proposed Greater Berhampur comprising Berhampur, Gopalpur and Chhatrapur will be sent to the Town Planning Department for its final approval. On getting its approval, a gazette notification will be published and measures will subsequently be taken for its implementation. A surplus budget of Rs 22.2 crore for 2015-16 year was passed in the meeting.
Rs 9 crore was sanctioned to speed up the construction of the proposed rock garden at Ambapua and for building a bus terminal at Haladiapadar. It was decided to handover 12 acre of land to Idco for construction of a commercial complex at Bibek Vihar. A proposal to set up a modern city on hundred acre of land at Shitalapalli on the outskirts of Berhampur and another on 41 acre land at Gopalpur was also passed at the meeting. It was decided to prepare a detailed project report for the 12 proposed parks in the town.
Lease of Gajapati Plaza given to a Kolkata-based private firm for seven years was cancelled. A proposal will be sent to the government for its approval. Discussions were also held for development of Biju Patnaik Park and other developmental projects. BDA chairman Subas Chandra Maharana presided over the meeting. Among others, district collector Premchandra Choudhury, higher education minister Pradip Panigrahi, Berhampur MLA Ramesh Chandra Chyau Patnaik, were present at the meeting.
