Rourkela: State Crime Branch DSP Tapan Kumar Mohanty Friday filed a chargesheet at SDJM court against five SIMI terrorists who were arrested from this city in February.
The 70-page chargesheet, with serious charges like treason, murder, arson, possession of arms and forgery of documents, has been filed after seven months of the arrests. The SIMI activists were part of a criminal network stretching across seven states, police said in the chargesheet.
Police had arrested five members of the banned outfit from Qureshi Mohalla at Nala Road of the Steel City February 16. The five accused included a woman. They were identified as Amjad Khan, Md Salique, Sk Sameer, Zakir Hussain and Najma Bibi of Khandua in Madhya Pradesh.
Three country-made pistols, 13 live bullets, fake PAN cards (issued in the name of Gopal Singh, Sanjay Sahoo and SK Sameer) were seized from their possession. Besides, police also seized a Tata Indigo car (UP-16-AD-3896), seven mobile phones, a motorcycle, four pen drives, two cartridges, four knives, three masks, two caps, and a passbook of Canara Bank.
The four men were fugitives who escaped from jail at Khandua in 2013.
Police, during a covert operation, surrounded Qureshi Mohalla and managed to nab the dreaded terrorists in the dead of night. Apart from SOG jawans, Telangana police, DVF, a special team of statistical unit of police were part of the operation.
While CB’s special task force (STF) took them in remand for 13 days February 18, a 24-member NIA team from Bhopal took four terrorists into their custody March 3. Since then, they have been in Bhopal jail. The woman terrorist Najma Bibi was lodged in Rourkela jail. PNN
