Cuttack, June 13: Commissionerate police Monday filed a preliminary chargesheet in the sensational murder of Omprakash Swain in the sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) court here.
In the 454-page chargesheet the CP made six persons accused in the murder. They are Sushant Dhalasamanta, his brother Sushil, associates Nirmal Rout, Debasish Kar, Sanjay Sahu alias Bhanja and Debasish Sahu alias Gudu. Chauliaganj police station had registered cases under Sections 364, 302, 120 (B), 201 and 34 of IPC and Sections 25 and 27 of arms act in this regard.
Statements of 59 persons were also recorded in the murder case and further investigation is on, CP stated in the chargesheet.
Om, who originally hailed from Nacchipur of Kujang in Jagatsinghpur, was living with his family at Kalyaninagar area in Madhupatna police limits in Cuttack. Dhalasamanta brothers and their associates had kidnapped Om and Dipu and took them to a farmhouse at Khuntakata in Athagarh November 12, 2013. There they beaten up the duo to death and transported their bodies to Jharkhand. They deposed of the bodies near a culvert at Ghosipulia in Gua police limits under West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. The criminal siblings also set the bodies afire to destroy evidence, the chargesheet stated.
Four days later, locals spotted the bodies with 70 per cent burn injuries and contacted the police. The bodies were recovered by police November 18 and a case was registered with Gua police. The police had buried the bodies after post-mortem as no one had turned up to claim the bodies.
The police have unveiled the murder mystery after taking the gangster brothers’ key associate Bharat Behera alias Litua into custody. As the investigations progressed, the CP arrested more accused in connection with the murder.
The CP has seized two vehicles which were used in the crime. Besides, the CP collected the post-mortem reports and other records from Gua police.
Earlier, Chauliaganj police had filed a 1120-page chargesheet May 26 and listed 14 persons as accused in the murder. While 10 of the 14 accused have been arrested so far, four are still on the run.
