Bhubaneswar: Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja interacted with senior journalists of the state at Lok Seva Bhawan Wednesday and discussed various challenges faced by journalists, exploring viable solutions for their welfare and professional security.
The meeting was also attended by the I&PR department’s additional chief secretary Hemant Sharma, director Anuj Kumar Das Pattanaik and additional director Gurbir Singh.
Recognising the crucial role of media in a democratic setup, Ahuja assured that appropriate measures would be taken to address the demands raised by media representatives.

He stated that the government remains committed to the welfare of journalists in the state and will continue consultations to implement necessary reforms.
Key issues discussed included the enactment of the Journalist Protection Act, the introduction of a pension scheme for senior journalists, the extension of non-retirement benefits, and enhanced assistance through the Journalist Welfare Fund.
The officials were directed to simplify and expedite the process of issuing identity cards to journalists for smooth access to public service buildings.
