City Bikers give Hockey WC a shot in the arm

BHUBANESWAR:  With the Hockey World Cup looming, bikers in the city have attempted to augment promotion of the event. The mega event is set to get a shot in the arm by this unique initiative.

A three-member biker group from Odisha had started a road trip to northern India to promote the upcoming event. Bikers Subrat Kumar Das, Siba Prasad Das, and Bibek Majhi had started the journey from Bhubaneswar October 10 and completed it Sunday.

They travelled 6000 kms and visited various places like Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi, Jaipur in Rajasthan, Golden Temple and Wagah Border in Amritsar, Punjab before reaching New Delhi. In the capital, they visited India Gate and Red Fort to promote the upcoming mega event. During the trip, they are displayed banner of the upcoming World Cup in front of national heritage sites and monuments to augment the appeal of the game.

Subrat Das said, “An event like this is the best way of promoting sporting culture in the state. As a biker group we regularly indulge in such trips to invoke sporting culture of our state. We have also set up a replica of the hockey world cup near our biker’s group headquarter near Cha Biscuit at Acharya Vihar in Bhubaneswar.
