Bhubaneswar: A new gallery dedicated to Odia movies called ‘Chalachitra’ was inaugurated at the State Museum here on the occasion of the International Museum Day, Friday. The gallery, inaugurated by Minister of Culture Ashok Panda, displayed Odia movie posters from 1936-1986 as well as posters of famous Odia playback singers. The renovated Numismatics Gallery was also opened for the general public Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Panda said, “The golden era of Odia movies needs to be remembered and what can be more glorious than having a special gallery dedicated to Odia movies”.
Museum superintendent Jayanti Rath welcomed the guests on the occasion, while veteran actor and MP Prasanta Nanda and actress Jharana Das were among the guests of honour. In his address, Nalco MD Tapan Chand said, “Museums are like time capsules and the Odisha State Museum houses collections that are testimony of our glorious past and rich heritage.
The collection is growing every day and people must visit the museum to know more about their art, culture and heritage. The living history of the museum becomes livelier when people visit it”. Veteran actress Jharana Das said, “Every Odia must realise that we have inherited a rich language and culture. Therefore, it is the duty of all Odias to visit the museum and dwell on the various findings housed here”. Two books – one on Pandit Nilamani Sanchayana and the second an Odisha Historical Research Journal, were also released on the occasion. Five collectors who displayed their valuable assortments on the occasion were feted.
The five prominent collectors include Shasanka Sekhar Dash, Bibhuti Patnaik, Arabinda Ray, Rajkishore Mohanta and Taranisen Patnaik. Interacting with Orissa POST, Dash said, “It’s a glorious moment for me and every Odiya. This recognition by the museum will definitely encourage to me to enhance my collection”.
