Bhubaneswar: Despite the mercury level in the Capital city plummeting to 8°C, people turned out in large numbers to celebrate the New Year in advance at Patha Utsav at the People’s Cultural Centre, Sunday. Many were seen wishing ‘Happy New Year 2019’ and bidding adieu to the old year 2018.
PECUC, an organisation working for child rights in the state, participated in the Patha Utsav. Standing at the door step of approaching New Year 2019, PECUC’s message was at the event was to create a better, healthier and safer environment for children and ensure that all their dreams and aspirations are fulfilled along with their natural physical and mental growth. Lots of playing materials provided to the children to increase their activity in a very cold winter morning.
In this age of technology when entertainment through TV, computer, mobile phones and tab are available at home, children seldom show interest in outdoor games. As a result, they are facing various health hazards like obesity, eating disorder among others. This was PECUC’s a very unique approach to create interest among children for outdoor games. And children too enjoyed different games and participated in art, quiz and various cultural programmes. They celebrated pre-New Year and exchanged wishes.
Centre for Women and Child Development also celebrated the last Patha utsav of 2018 with slum children. On the occasion, several artists prepared street art on the New Year’s theme. Several dance groups performed at the last Patha Ustav of the year. Patha Utsav started December 2, 2018 on the ocassion of .Fest.
